Career

International career

He caught the attention of the national selectors with his strong all-round showing in the 2008-09 Ranji Trophy - 42 wickets and 739 runs - and was promptly picked for the ODI series in Sri Lanka. His international debut came in the final match of the series on 8 February 2009 where he scored 60*, even though India lost the match. In the 2009 World Twenty20 Jadeja was criticised for not scoring at the requisite run rate in India's loss to England. Jadeja's World Twenty20 jinx continued with a dismal bowling performance against Australia in the next edition of the tournament in 2010 which cost India dearly, with India losing the match and bowing out of the tournament. After the incumbent all rounder Yusuf Pathan suffered a loss of form, Jadeja took his place at No. 7 in the ODI team in late-2009. In the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Cuttack on 21 December 2009, Jadeja was awarded the man of the match award following a haul of four wickets. His best bowling figure is 4-32. [1] He made a comeback into the Indian ODI side in the 3rd One-Dayer against England at Kennington Oval at London and arriving at 58/5 after 19 overs, he had a 112-run partnership with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni(69 from 103 balls) and then a 59-run blitzkrieg with Ravichandran Ashwin(36 not out from 19) to help his side reach 234/7 in 50 overs. He also had 2/42 from his 9 overs castling opener-wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter(51 from 46) and Tim Bresnan(28 from 38), thus assisting fellow spinner Ravichandran Ashwin(3 for 40 from 9 overs) in a 43-over innings. England however won the rain-affected game by 3 wickets (D/L method) with 7 overs to spare, though he himself earned a Man of the Match for his gutsy all-round performance. His performance in the fourth ODI was mixed as he took a blinder in the last over at the boundary and earlier, had a mini 'brain-fade' giving away four overthrows in a keenly contested tie. [2]

First class cricket

Jadeja made his first class debut in 2006-07 Duleep Trophy. He is a part of India-A set-up. He plays for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy and for Saurashtra in Ranji Trophy. In early November 2011 in a Ranji Trophy match against Orissa, Jadeja smashed 314 off just 375 balls hitting 29 fours and 9 sixes.

Under 19 Cricket World Cup

He played for India in Under 19 Cricket World Cup in 2006 and 2008. His bowling and fielding helped India win Under 19 Cricket World Cup 2008 final.

Indian Premier League

Jadeja was selected to be a part of the Rajasthan Royals for the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. His brilliant display in the IPL matches won him praises from the team’s captain and coach, Shane Warne. He made his presence felt during the IPL campaign and played a crucial role in helping the team win the 2008 IPL defeating Chennai Super Kings in the finals played on June 1, 2008 in Mumbai. He scored 135 runs from 14 matches in the IPL season, his best score being 36* versus Mohali [Kings XI Punjab], at a strike rate of 131.06.

He was banned from the 2010 tournament due to a contractual dispute. In 2011, he was selected as part of Kochi Tuskers Kerala for $950,000.

Personal life

Jadeja currently lives in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Jadeja belongs to a Rajput family of Jamnagar. He drives a White Audi A4 with his signature R on the number plate. His father was the cousin of Ajay Jadeja.
